About the program

The Greener Government School Buildings (GGSB) program is an exciting initiative to help your school take a step forward in becoming energy-sustainable and environmentally friendly.

The initiative is a partnership between the Department of Education (DE), the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) and participating Government schools, and will be delivered by the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA).

Through the program, successful schools will have the opportunity to have a solar power system installed. This will help successful schools to save on energy and utilities costs and contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The VSBA will work with successful schools to oversee system installation and any associated works.

Please note:

Before completing this application form please make sure you have read the Greener Government School Buildings Program Guidelines, which you can access here.

The sections in this form will help us understand your school, energy usage, construction and maintenance. The information provided will help ascertain the feasibility of a solar power system at your school.

Documents to attach to your application: Supporting documentation needs to be uploaded to this application at the time of lodgement. Schools are encouraged to seek support early if requiring guidance to meet these requirements.

If you have any questions relating to this application form, please contact the Sustainability and Environment Unit at the Victorian School Building Authority by emailing VSBA.Green.Energy.Programs@education.vic.gov.au.

Key Program Considerations

  • the GGSB program is NOT a grant – the solar power system will be paid upfront by the VSBA and is required to be paid back over five years’ time from the electricity savings generated;
  • schools participating must adhere to the GGSB conditions;
  • completing the application is an agreeance of committing to the program;
  • the maximum size of a solar power system to be installed under GGSB is up to 99.9kW.

GGSB Program Conditions

  • the cost of the solar power system installed through the GGSB program must be paid back in no more than five years’ time; and
  • once payback has been achieved, schools will forego 50 per cent of the ongoing electricity cost savings to Consolidated Revenue (DTF) through a SRP funding reduction.

Confirmation of understanding

I confirm that I, as the applicant …

  • am a representative of a Victorian Government school (eg. Principal, Business Manager, School Council President)
  • have read and understood the Greener Government School Buildings Program Guidelines
  • acknowledge that the Greener Government School Buildings is not grant and does not provide funding;
  • commit to the GGSB Program Conditions, including:
    • paying back the cost of the system in five years; and,
    • providing 50 per cent of on-going savings generated from the project to Consolidated Revenue (DTF).
  • am aware that, if successful, the Victorian School Building Authority will provide a proposal including the specifics of a solar power system and a payment schedule which must be agreed to by my school's council and principal
